The Future Of Arizona Should Help Fund The Implementation...

The center for the Future of Arizona should help fund the implementation of a new education system that will effectively meet the needs in order for Arizona to become one of the best in K-12 education in the nation. According to the report done by the National Center for Education Statistics for the 100 largest school districts in the nation, in the fiscal year 2013 the total expenditure of Mesa Unified School District in Arizona was of only $7,110 per pupil. On the other hand, the Boston City Schools in Massachusetts had a total expenditure of $19,066 per pupil. Arizona has been funding the state s education for half the amount that states such as Massachusetts invest. It is relevant to compare Arizona with this state because it has been continuously ranked the best in the nation regarding education. â€Å"Massachusetts has led the nation in all but one NAEP reading and math exam given since 2005† (Dawsey, 33). The NAEP, National Assessment of Educational Progress, is the lar gest representative and continuing evaluation of educational progress in the nation. Imagine a 172 minute long independent movie with a budget of $100 million, featuring Hollywood stars such as Tom Hanks and Halle Berry and directed by the same people who created The Matrix trilogy. Cloud Atlas is undoubtedly one of the most ambitious films ever made. It is based on the 2004 award winning novel by David Mitchell. The plot consists of six interwoven stories spanning nearly 500 years. It begins in 1849 with the American lawyer Adam Ewing, who sails to the Pacific islands in order to arrange a contract for his father-in-law. On his way back, Adam finds a slave named Autua hiding in his cabin, who convinces the lawyer to help him become a free man. Meanwhile, Dr. Henry Goose wants to steal Adam Ewing’s valuables, so he slowly†¦show more content†¦But then the killer’s brothers come after Cavendish to get their share of the money. Having spent it all, Timothy finds himself on the run and ends up in a â€Å"hotel† which turns out to be a priso n-like nursing home. There he and three other senior â€Å"residents† plan and pull off the most ridiculous escape. The fifth story is set in 22nd century Korea. Its protagonist is the fabricant Sonmi-451, a brainwashed human clone slave working as a server in a fast food restaurant. One night, she is liberated by Hae-Joo Chang, a member of a rebel group which wants to free the fabricants. Chang shows Sonmi that when their contracts end, instead of being freed as promised, fabricants are killed and recycled into food for other fabricants. She is then taken to a broadcasting tower where she reveals her story before being captured and executed by the government. The last storyline is dedicated to Zachry, a primitive tribesman, living in a post-apocalyptic 24th century world. He meets Meronym, a woman from a dying advanced society. She needs Zachry’s help to reach a communication station and broadcast a message to Earth’s off-world colonies in hopes of finding salv ation for her people. After a perilous journey, during which Zachry’s tribe is killed, the two of them complete Meronym’s mission and are later seen leaving Earth together. The Two Species of Elephants Free Essays

In the present day there exists two species of elephants. These two species have many relatives that have come before them and died out. Several of these species are Paleomastodon, Deinotherlum, Gompotherium, Prlmelephas which Is a direct ancestor to the modern day elephant, Stegadon, American mastodon, and wooly mammoth. It also had a small brain which scientist believe Is responsible for Its extinction ue to lack of intelligence compared to other species. Gomphotherium is another species ot elephant that lived in the Americas, Europe, Delgrosso 2 and Asla and originated about 13 million years ago. It lived in swampy lake areas and marshes. This species had long tusks and a short trunked which was adapted to help It dig through mud to find aquatic vegetation. Stegadon which was the largest of all the species of elephants grew to its size to due to abundance of food that it would find in the parts of asia in which it lived. Most of them died out hundreds of housands of years ago except for a subspecies that lives in Indonesia on an Island of flores. This subspecies was smaller than the other species since it was secluded on an island and did not have access to as much food. The American Mastadon was found in the Americas and was a fur covered species of elephant, to help protect it from the colder climates, that was hunted Into extinction by humans about 10,000 years ago. Primeelephas is a direct genus to the modern day elephant and originated in Africa about 23 million years ago. It evolved Into three new species the Wooly mammoth, African elephant, and Asian elephant. The wooly mammoth lived in most places In the northern hemisphere and was covered In a coat of fur due to the cold climates in which it lived. It lived through the last ice age and died out at the end of it due to hunting and the quick climate change. The two living species of elephant left are the African elephant or loxodante and the Asian elephant or elephas.
